With the American Public Health Association (APHA) 2025 Annual Meeting planned in Washington DC, Public Health Awakened has put together resources for attendees to keep each other as safe as possible. Given the increased presence of local, state, and federal law enforcement in DC, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), we put together DC specific know your rights information including:
- Know Your Rights information when interacting with law enforcement
- Know Your Rights information when interacting with ICE
- An accompaniment hotline created by Public Health Awakened, which APHA attendees can text or call to ask for a buddy to walk you to/from/within the conference center
- Local DC organizing resources
While this information was written for people attending APHA’s Annual Meeting in DC and has DC specific information, much of the know your rights information can be applied to any context in any city. Find out who is doing local immigrant defense work, ICE watch, ICE hotlines, mutual aid, etc. in your community!
